Azoospermia
Azoospermia

Azoospermia is a male fertility issue characterized by zero sperm count in a man's ejaculate. A minimum amount of sperm is often necessary for fertility. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies sperm counts at or above 15 million sperm per milliliter (mL) of semen as average. Therefore if there is no sperm in a man's ejaculate, then it is considered Nil sperm count and is diagnosed as azoospermia.

Nil Sperm Count

Problems of Nil Sperm count can develop due to hormonal imbalance, blockage along the reproductive tract, ejaculation issues or problems with testicular structure or function. Azoospermia development is classified into two types: obstructive azoospermia and non-obstructive azoospermia.

The noticeable sign of nil sperm count is the inability to conceive a child due to the absence of sperm in semen. However, other signs you may encounter can be more related to hormonal imbalance or genetic chromosomal conditions. Nil sperm count symptoms might include:

As part of the initial diagnosis for azoospermia, your healthcare provider will go through your history, which may include specific questions related to the body and reproductive health. After that, some physical examination is conducted to check the signs of lack of maturation of the body and the reproductive organ, in which the penis, scrotum, vas deferens, epididymis, size of the testicles, presence of varicocele or presence of blockage is analyzed. For a proper analysis, medical examinations should be conducted that will identify the exact cause of Azoospermia development so that corrective measures can be taken on time. These include genetic testing, measurement of FSH levels, X-ray or ultrasound of the reproductive organ to check for any blockage, tumor or structural defect, brain scans to identify disorders related to the hypothalamus or pituitary gland and biopsy of the testes.

3 Does Azoospermia Cause Infertility?

Azoospermia means that a man would not have a measurable amount of sperm in their semen, which directly affects a man's ability to conceive a child with a partner. If you have azoospermia, it means there are no sperm seen in your semen. And having no sperm is a significant factor for infertility. Azoospermia can be treated with Ayurveda (having a higher success in eligible patients).
