What is IgA Nephropathy?

In kidney failure, IgA Nephropathy is recognized as the major cause of chronic disease. It is also called Berger’s disease. It occurs when the antibody known as immunoglobulin A (IgA) builds up in your kidneys. This results in local inflammation that, over time, can hamper your kidneys’ ability to filter waste from your blood.

IgA nephropathy usually progresses gradually over the years, but the course of this disease varies from person to person. Some individuals leak blood in their urine without developing issues, some eventually achieve complete remission & others develop end-stage kidney failure. Some individuals face symptoms including hematuria without any major development in symptoms of the disease.

As far as the treatment of IgA nephropathy is concerned, our Ayurvedic treatment for IgA nephropathy includes herbs & guidelines that can treat the disease from the core. Also, it is vital to reduce the cholesterol level of our body and keep a check on blood pressure to delay the progression of the disease. Start by getting a personalized diagnosis of your health problem and begin your healing journey at SRIAAS for long-term relief.

Causes of IgA nephropathy

Scientific research stated that IgA nephropathy is an autoimmune kidney disease, in which the disease is caused due to body’s immune system harming the kidneys.

When IgA nephropathy occurs, there is an increased level of IgA in the patients’ blood, which contains less special sugar (galactose) than usual. As this IgA has a decreased level of galactose, they are considered foreign by other antibodies circulating in the blood. Due to that, these antibodies attach themselves to the IgA, forming a clump called the immune complex. These clumps get stuck in the glomerulus of the nephron, causing damage and inflammation. Even when our body goes through respiratory infections or colds, IgA immune complex circulates more, and it can end up in the kidney, causing IgA nephropathy.

There are many other causes of IgA nephropathy:

  • Constant tobacco use
  • Liver Disease
  • Kidney inflammation
  • Bacterial Infection
  • Dermatitis
  • Genetics

Kidney Diseases

Symptoms of IgA nephropathy

Kidney damage from IgA nephropathy can take years to develop. In the very early stages, IgA nephropathy disease doesn’t reveal any symptoms. In the later stages, you might experience these signs and symptoms:

  • Urine that is the color of tea (because of the presence of red blood cells)
  • Traces of blood in the urine
  • Frequent urination
  • The urine might also be foamy because IgA nephropathy causes proteins to seep into the urine
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Backache (usually below the rib cage)
  • Puffy eyes & swelling of the hands & feet (edema)
  • Proteinuria (having too much protein in your urine) can cause edema (swelling) & foamy urine.
  • Flank pain (in the sides of your back).

Complications of IgA nephropathy

IgA nephropathy affects differently from person to person. Some people have few or no problems when it occurs. Many of them even go undiagnosed, and some people might develop one or more following complications.

High Blood Pressure
When IgA deposits in the kidneys, it causes the blood pressure to rise high. The uncontrolled blood pressure can then damage the kidneys further.

High Cholesterol
As the kidney functions deteriorate, bad cholesterol forms up in the blood, this high cholesterol level can cause a heart attack.

Acute Kidney Failure
As the IgA deposits in the kidney, the filtering capability of the kidney can be affected if continued for a prolonged period; it can cause acute kidney failure.

Chronic Kidney Disease
As the function of the kidney deteriorates, its ability to flush out toxins decreases. This causes permanent damage to the kidney, leading to dialysis or kidney transplant.

Nephrotic Syndrome
If the glomeruli get damaged, the capability to absorb needed protein gets lost, causing low protein in the blood, high cholesterol, and swelling of eyelids, feet, and abdomen.

Prevention of IgA nephropathy

Prevention is always better than cure. Our goal is to prevent problems that cause IgA nephropathy and chronic renal failure with the help of Ayurvedic herbal medicines. We recommend bringing dietary changes that include a low salt and protein intake. Some of the causes of IgA Nephropathy are:

  • Herbal and Ayurvedic medicines
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Manage High blood pressure
  • Do daily Exercise
  • Manage stress

Dialysis is not a cure! Ayurveda comes to the rescue!

IgA nephropathy can cause serious damage to the kidney, due to which its functions get hindered. Once the kidney functions deteriorate, its ability to flush out the toxins gets halted, for which patients are advised to go for dialysis. Dialysis does the work of our kidneys, but it also flushes out the nutrients and minerals from our blood, causing more complications in the future. Ayurveda is the only way to cure IgA nephropathy without giving any side effects or health risks. Our goal is to increase the function of the kidney with the help of Ayurvedic medicines, a controlled diet, and personalized Exercise so that further damage can be prevented.

Other Kidney Treatments at SRIAAS

Ayurveda offers treatment for all stages of different renal problems. Acute kidney disease is caused by diseases such as acute glomerulonephritis, severely high blood pressure, bilateral pyelonephritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus while chronic renal failure might result from conditions such as progressive glomerulonephritis, polycystic disease of kidneys, chronic pyelonephritis, & tuberculosis of kidneys. There are very effective herbs used in Ayurvedic treatment for kidney failure which helps rejuvenate the kidneys by restoring the filtration capacity & improving the overall functioning of your kidney. This line of treatment can eliminate the risk of kidney failure & the need for dependency upon dialysis.
